Profile

At age 10 (4th grade) had a war bond poster chosen for an exhibit of school children’s art in Montreal. Just four were chosen from the school. At age 13 some of her artwork was chosen for display at the Eaton’s Auditorium in Montreal. At age 15 D’Vora became an award winning dress designer in a nation-wide contest in Canada, a career she followed off and on for many years after she studied art at the Sir George Williams School of Art at the Concordia University in Montreal.

For many years D’Vora left the world of visual art to raise a family and entered the world of business, eventually attaining the position of Administrator at a Nursing Home. During this time she became involved in the performing arts. She read poetry to music with her partner the late organist Rodderick Beach.

After this she designed and made cloth dolls and furry animals. She won third prize in Crafts at one of the Winthrop Art Association Spring Festivals. This inspired her to return to the world of Fashion and studied with Guiseppe Fiandacca at the School of Fashion Design. She had two fashion shows of her designs, one in New York City and one in Lynn. When medical conditions prevented her from continuing in the Fashion World she picked up a camera and became a photographer. She has traveled extensively in Guatemala and Honduras chronicling her adventures. D’Vora has also done camera work at WCAT, Winthrop’s local television station.

D’Vora has shown her work in crafts and photography in many of the Winthrop Art Association Festivals, Hamilton/Wenham Show where she won an Honorable Mention in Photography, Greater Lynn Arts and Crafts Society, The Winthrop Federal Credit Union, Fleet BankBoston , Art On the Square in Winthrop’s Center, Lynn Historical Museum, and Eastern Bank Lynn. Work can currently be seen at the Classic Art Gallery in Winthrop, MA.

D’Vora has been involved with the Winthrop Art Association since 1979 serving in the capacities of President, Vice President, Treasurer, Corresponding Secretary, Hospitality Chairperson, and Historian. In January of 2002 she won the Chamber of Commerce Award for Excellence in The Arts.

In April 2001won the Prestigious Selectmen’s Award at the Winthrop Art Association’s Spring Art Festival. In May 2003 awarded the Greater Lynn Arts and Crafts Society’s Presidents Choice Ribbon.
