The Winthrop Art Association was founded in 1969 when new resident and young wife and mother Beverly Brody Barisano (pictured at left with our friend and former Senator Joe Boncore) put an ad in the local newspaper asking any artists interested in forming an art association to contact her. Beverly and her life-long friend Brenda Kadiff and a few others gathered at Beverly’s house and thus was born the Winthrop Art Association.
More than 50 years later, Beverly continues to be an active artist and member of the WAA Board of Directors, regularly contributing water color paintings to the annual festival and encouraging the work of others in the community. The WAA has grown to more than 150 members, and engages in a wide variety of activities that benefit both the artistic community and the town as well.
